Who would have guessed homeless guys could build cabinets. I was amazed.
Out of the woods used for cabinets White Oak is third on the list below Hickory & Hard Maple for hardness. The oak was chosen for cost & durability. The boxes were hand built out of birch with oak face frames.
My philosophy when building rental property is:
- Make it maintenance free as possible.
- Make everything idiot proof as possible for both tenant and landlord.
- Build it bullet proof as possible. (i.e. difficult to tear up)
Besides the cost advantage and the cool factor this house has all of these incorporated into this house.
Near the end of construction on a project I always make a punch list of small things left to do. I am at that point and have my list made. All I have to do now is complete the list.
